Lead Flashing Installation and Repair

There are three main types of flashing used in properties around the UK but of the three, by far the most commonly seen is called apron flashing and is made from lead. This style of flashing is used so much because it is very versatile and can be used in a range of situations. These roof components can be fitted and maintained by a professional roofer without too much work but shouldn’t be attempted without the relevant experience. Why lead flashings are used

Lead flashings are used on roofs as well as on porches, doors and windows – anywhere where there is a join. This can include chimneys, dormer windows, roof valleys and even vents. The purpose of a flashing is to create a watertight seal around these joins as well as create a valley for water to flow along in some situations, often known as a roof valley. Flashings protect elements of weakness on the roof and the use of lead ensures that they are strong and long-lasting.

Installation and repairing lead flashing

Installing lead flashing is usually done when a roof is put in place or when an extension is added.   If new windows are added to the roof, then flashings will be added at this point. Any time that there is a change to the construction of the roof, flashings will be required.
